Our new international volunteer has arrived!
We are more than happy to welcome a new member of our team! Lara has just arrived from Ireland and we hope that she will have a wonderful time here in Veszprém!
We still have a lot of exciting events planned for the European Capital of Culture year, so Lara came to help us.
Let's get to know her better!
"My name is Lara and I have just begun my volunteering experience in Veszprém, Hungary to help with the European Capital of Culture 2023! I am from Ireland, the west coast of the country, a very green and wild place!
I love to be home, but I have always loved travelling abroad and seeing new places that are different. I have lived in London and Ghent (in Belgium) before, and now I am trying Hungary which has been great so far! I am excited to immerse myself in the language and culture here, I really enjoy living somewhere completely new, it’s always a great experience!
After living in London, I came back to Ireland to study social science at university because I realised I wanted to do something that allowed me to support others with challenges they might face in life, like economic or social challenges. Because I was not quite sure which direction to take, I chose a broad degree and now I know I want to try community work.
After my studies, I was looking for a new adventure and for something that related to what I might want to do in the future, so when I saw the programme here I had to apply! I love going to museums, art galleries, concerts and all kinds of creative events, so I knew I would really enjoy helping with this project.
This was the perfect choice for me because I will get to experience what it’s like to be a part of a creative project and see how things like this are organised. I hope to pick up some skills related to planning and task management, but also, some teamwork skills too. Another reason I chose this project was because it involves some community work, as they have workshops and programmes available for the community of Veszprém, so I hope to learn through my experience with this.
I am really looking forward to all of the programmes that will be running this year, I think there will be lots to see and do! I am also excited to get to know everyone I will be working with and get to meet some of the community through the local hub and it’s projects. I am very much looking forward to seeing where this experience goes! "
